In this special blog feature I am highlighting the amazing authors whose stories are in  The Christmas Tales Bundle.

At first I wasn’t sure author Bonnie Elizabeth would have a chance to stop by. This versatile woman has worked in various fields (see question 2) and presently writes every day while being the slave–excuse me– owner of three cats, so not only was I glad to include her story in the bundle it was a treat to learn more about her.

The Story: Christmas Whispers

Time passes slowly when you’re an earth spirit and no one lives on the land.

It’s Christmas in Whisper and Anna Barringer wants a doll. The settlement is new and no one can be spared to go to the city and shop with what little coin they have.

They aren’t even going to have a tree because the house is too small. Anna gathers berries and pinecones and with the help of the earth spirit that resides on Whisper decorates her own, outside.

The earth spirit has her own ideas about gifts and humans as she struggles to find a way to make the little girl happy.

Christmas Whispers is a short story of Whisper, although it takes place long before the series begins.

The Questions

1. What inspired this Christmas Story?

A number of people had asked me to do background stories about the characters in my Whisper series, particularly about the earth spirit that is part of the land upon which Whisper is located and goes by the name Peter. I wanted to make him as different as possible from the character in the series because I wanted to stretch who he was in the minds of the readers. The story was a Christmas story and it was about meeting new people so naturally there had to be an outdoor tree and of course there would be gifts.

2. What do you want to be when you grow up?

I want to be a successful writer with my perfect office in my home. And I want my cats to all get along with each other. Maybe that’s what I want our latest feline, Ham, to be when he grows up though. All the same, I can’t imagine wanting to do anything else but write so maybe I am grown up? Before this I was a veterinary receptionist, library worker, cemetery sexton, and an acupuncturist.

3. Any upcoming projects you’d like to share?

My latest project is another story in my Willow Vaughn saga called Sun Spot Magic. It’s due out in mid December. Willow’s stories are more middle grade than adult so they pull a completely different audience than my Whisper books but they’re fun to write. I have One Bad Wish out since June. I also just finished the first draft of the tenth book of the Whisper series and I expect that out towards the end of next year but I have several other projects that will be out before that.
