A State of Change: An RWA Recap

I will post another ‘Writers are Crazy’ post next week, but I wanted to share some thoughts on the RWA conference. Continuity gives us roots; change gives us branches, letting us stretch and grow and reach new heights. Pauline R Kezer I really enjoyed the recent RWA conference in New York even though I lost a beautiful earring my mother had bought me (note to self—don’t wear lovely earrings when setting up for a luncheon for over 2000 people) and every day I had to dodge people dressed up as Mickey and Minnie Mouse on my way to the conference hotel (I was in the overflow hotel several loooong blocks…

    What about Daniella?

What do you get when you mix a Cinderella tale with a dash of Little Women a dollop of romance and a whole lot of Girard humor? A novel called THE GLASS SLIPPER PROJECT a story about four women and one eligible bachelor who’s the key to solving their financial troubles. I had lots of fun writing this story and was proud of the end product. Unfortunately, it was released to the sound of one hand clapping. Few readers bought it. Artists are Weird, but Writers are Crazy: Chapter 1

Please note that this series is written in fun. If you don’t like hints of sarcasm and hyperbole don’t read this series. If you find the title offensive, don’t read this series. However, if you understand that this is a great time to be a writer of fiction and feel like a lone happy person in a tsunami of fear, read on. (special thanks to author/ artist Kimberly Van Meter for creating the cover for me) I wasn’t going to start this series until September because it’s summer and I didn’t want to commit to this until the weather started to cool and I was forced to stay inside more.…

    Let Freedom Ring

As people celebrate Independence Day in the US, I want to celebrate four other types of freedoms. 1. Freedom to dream. 2. Freedom to work towards your dream. 3. Freedom to fall down and get back up again. 4. Freedom to create bad art. I’m going to expand on the last freedom because a lot of writers struggle with it. They look to critique groups, agents, editors, friends, and/or teachers to validate their work and give it a stamp of approval. They want to create masterpieces. Here’s a news flash. Most masterpieces came after a lot of sh**ty work. Manure helps things grow, whether it’s a harvest or talent. It’s…

    The Big Apple

I’m busy packing up for my trip to New York. I’ll be attending the annual Romance Writers of America conference. I plan to meet old friends and make new ones, take lots of notes and find out what’s happening in the industry. I have a feeling I’ll come back both exhausted and rejuvenated. But that’s to be expected because conferences can be overwhelming, if you don’t know how to handle them. If you’re a newbie to the conference scene, here are three tips: Smile. You know that ‘dear in the headlights’ look? Not attractive. You know that falling on your knees in worship over an author whose work you adore?…
