    Is this all there is?

Yes. For now. For now, only three people may: Show up at your talk. Read your work. See your painting. Hear your band. Listen to your podcast. For now, as you hear the loud applause and cheer for other artists, your efforts will feel like a waste—useless.

    You’re no good…

Doesn’t mean you’ll never be good. Not being good at something isn’t permanent. This is why practice matters. “You don’t start out writing good stuff. You start out writing crap and thinking its good stuff, and then gradually you get better at it. That’s why I say one of the most valuable traits is persistence.” Octavia Butler

    Eight years ago

In July 2008 POWER PLAY, the first book in The Black Stockings Society series, launched the beginning of my first miniseries. This story, about a mousy woman who learns to take control, is now available in a new eBook format and a trade paperback version will be available soon. I’m so happy that it’s getting a chance to reach a new audience. You can find out more about the story here.

    There’s Plenty of Time

Remember that goal you had at the beginning of the year? The one that made your heart race, the one that filled you with excitement and anticipation? You can still achieve it. There are plenty of days left in the year. Usually, when July comes around, many people have discarded their resolutions and goals. Some beat themselves up about it, others think their chances are gone and decide that they’ll focus on being better next year. That doesn’t have to be you. Seize whatever time you have now. There’s a lot of it left for the taking.
