Just Some Thoughts

When it’s no longer working

…have the courage to let it go.

In the past, it wasn’t that hard. In childhood most of us quickly outgrew lots of things—clothes, toys, activities, friendships—with lightning speed and little thought. However, that ability slowly became difficult in adulthood.

We were taught that with maturity came an obligation to ‘stick with things’. So we’ll hang on to habits, tools, routines, jobs, relationships way past their usefulness because it’s what ‘adults’ do.

We’ve been brainwashed into forgetting that outgrowing things is normal, natural, freeing. It’s part of being alive. We are designed to move forward, to look ahead; not to get stuck in ‘the way we’ve always done things’.

You know it when you sense a need for a change, no matter how small. It’s easy to ignore it, that’s what most people do.

But you’re not most people.

Stop being surprised when something stops working. Learn to expect it, knowing it’s part of life’s journey.

So…when it’s no longer working?

Don’t dwell on the loss.

Let go and move on.
