The Power of Collage

For my January 2008 release Taming Mariella I tried something new. I created a collage. I heard about the benefits of doing a collage from other authors and you can read a great article about it from Jennifer Crusie.

I don’t claim to be an expert, but it definitely helped to focus the story and set the mood. Mariella was such a bold and striking character that I put the same model figure in my collage about three times.

I had planned on showing you a picture, but the upload feature on my blog is presently not working so you may have to check in tomorrow.

For now you can look at Elizabeth Holcombe’s collage.

A fun article by Colleen Gleason with examples.

And an example of Jennifer Crusie’s collage for a Christmas novella she was working on.

Then get out your scissors and glue and give collaging a try.

  1. I have tons of coverflats, bookmarks, postcards, etc. I’d love to make a collage with all of them.
My Mom’s an artist and she’s made several wonderful collages out of photographs and magazine clippings. Will stop by tomorrow to see yours, Dara.
